Hattie the Skull
I’m working on pulling Hattie the Skull into spaces & places where the ancestors may have been, or where they are currently waiting for me. She’s often in contemporary or modern spaces - architectural spaces - because these are places that have personally meant a lot to me as a student of architecture, someone someone who aspires to living in those types of spaces. And so, it’s not always a given, even with financial resources, these spaces will be open to me… And so Hattie, in some ways she is both an ancestor & also a reminder to be somewhat subversive. To be willing to go beyond the pale of the living & into maybe those spaces where the dead are allowed to tread.
You’ve got to keep them separated.
