Chelsea dispatch: KAWS at Mary Boone

Impressions of the KAWS show at Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea. The soaring sculptures fabricated in wood call to mind that iconic mouse of my childhood (and adulthood) visits to the land and world of Disney.

Two of the figures are joined together and one is off to the side, alone - hands over the eyes and head lifted toward the ceiling as though to say, “why, why am I all alone?”

Or maybe that was just my 13 year old self whispering in my ear. It all seemed so fraught back then, didn’t it? The constant worry about who was popular, who had the right clothes, who listened to the right music, who was just a tad bit too smart for her own good?
